GENERAL ERRORS
Invalid Business or Processor Type
The ICVERIFY® software supports a variety of "Business Types," including Retail, Mail Order, Food, Hotel, Gas, Airline, and a variety of other business types. However, the
ICVERIFY GUI for Windows® will only support Retail and Mail Order business types. Therefore "R" and "M" are the only valid entries for Business Type in Setup if you are planning on using the ICVERIFY GUI (there is no such restriction if you are using the ICVERIFY for Windows Multi-User Request Processor with a third party POS system or if you are using a DOS or UNIX version of the ICVERIFY software). Also, some business types may not be available for the ICVERIFY program with certain processor setups.
Not Approved
A transaction can be declined for a variety of reasons. Some processors will indicate the reason; others will not.
- If the response is "Not Approved: Timed out" there is an issue with the connection. Either the modem is not setup correctly or there is a problem with the phone line.
- "Not Approved: Call." Voice authorization is necessary. The card may be good, and yet still require voice authorization on occasion.
- "Pick up Card"; "Lost or Stolen Card" "Invalid Card Number:" There is a problem with the card.
- "No Such Issuer": The Issuing Bank Number is not valid.

A Communications Error message indicates an invalid communications parameter or setting for the modem. One of the following messages may also appear:
- INVALID Port #
- INVALID Baud
- INVALID Parity
- INVALID Stop Bits
- INVALID Data Bits
- INVALID Buffer
- INVALID Open

- INVALID UART
- INVALID Never Open
- INVALID ERROR: (Error Number)
Time Out - Modem Not Responding
Two possible causes:
- The ICVERIFY software makes a direct call to the modem. Therefore, if another program (such as a fax program or Internet service) is running in the background, the ICVERIFY program will not be able to access
the modem. In Windows NT, if RAS is running as a Service, this will also prevent the ICVERIFY software from accessing the modem.
- The modem settings in Setup for the ICVERIFY program may be incorrect. Open Setup. Go to "Hardware". Verify that the "Modem Port" setting matches the port setting for the modem listed under "Modem Properties in the Windows Control Panel". Also, make sure the dial string is the correct dial string for the manufacturer and model modem installed on your system. (For a list of dial strings, click here).
